Nothing says Fall like Apple Crisp! Just like the title says, this is a quick and easy Apple Crisp that you can customize using additional ingredients of your choosing. The basic recipe calls for only five ingredients, apples, boxed cake mix, butter sugar, and cinnamon. I also prefer to use all organic ingredients when possible. I find when you use quality ingredients it makes everything taste better!
Let’s talk about ingredients for a second. Butter is a very important ingredient and my favorite butter is always going to be Kerrygold. The quality and flavor are just far superior to any other butter that I’ve tried. If you haven’t tried it, I highly suggest that you do and decide for yourself!
The other important ingredient is cinnamon. Most of you probably have the typical pantry staple cinnamon which is also known as Cassia Cinnamon. Cassia Cinnamon tastes great and works just fine. However, Ceylon Cinnamon is has a more mild but sweeter taste which makes it perfect for use in desserts. Ceylon Cinnamon also has more health benefits than Cassia Cinnamon. It contains antioxidant compounds that offer antioxidant protection. These antioxidant compounds protect against cancer and heart disease and can even help to strengthen capillaries. Some additional benefits of Ceylon Cinnamon include antimicrobial and anti-parasitic activity, digestive health, and blood pressure reduction. With all those extra benefits, why wouldn’t you use Ceylon Cinnamon in all your cooking?
The third important ingredient is the boxed cake mix. You can use any boxed cake mix of your choosing. I usually use yellow cake mix but the Betty Crocker Vanilla was what I had on hand and it tasted delicious. I also think a spiced cake mix would be amazing, although I haven’t tried that yet. There really are no limits!
Below is the recipe for the quick and easy apple crisp. Feel free to add less or more of any ingredient and you can also add oats and nuts for additional crunch and flavor!
